Reece Chapman takes second race of the weekend in the West

Guardian Interlock System’s Reece Chapman has sealed a thrilling victory in Race 2 for Round 3 of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Raceway in Perth.

Chapman held off a last lap lunge from Osborn’s Transport driver Joel Heinrich to deny the reigning series winner victory.

It was Heinrich getting the jump as Chapman quickly demoted Race 1 winner Kody Garland for MTA NSW to third entering Turn 3 before making a successful bid for the lead at the final corner.

Riskie Racing’s Brandon Madden made it a close top four as Nathan Williams dropped down the field due to rear damage, but it was Chapman and Heinrich pulling away.

Rookie Cup round leader Jordan Freestone had his run dented by a loose bonnet, but a quick trip to the pits to remove and he returned to the action.

It was a thrilling dice between Heinrich and Chapman for the lead, again showcasing the high standard of racing in this category.

Behind, Garland was holding steady as Madden and Brewczynski collided at Turn 1 in the battle for fourth allowing Masters Cup leader Kent Quinn into the top five before he also went off at the final corner elevating the Riskie Racing driver back to fifth.

A last gasp pass at Turn 6 from Heinrich wasn’t enough as Chapman completed the switch back to win, with Garland third.

Madden, Quinn, Gold Cup winner Scott Dornan for Action Line Marking, Mason Harvey in an impressive drive from the back sealed Rookie Cup in eighth, while Cody Mckay and Williams rounded out the 10.

Behind Dornan in the Gold Cup were Riskie Racing’s Scott Andriske and Fight MND’s Jeff Watters.

Harvey succeeded in Rookie Cup from Shane Mann and Lachlan Evennett.

While Quinn led the way from Mckay and Troy Jones in Masters Cup.

The action continues tomorrow with two races starting at 8:35am AWST/10:35 AEST.
