Mason Harvey outlasts rivals to take maiden victory in Tasmania

Mason Harvey has scored his maiden Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Series presented by TFH Hire race victory in an action-packed Race 2 at Symmons Plains.

Finishing under safety car following multiple incidents, but Harvey had already completed the pass for the lead at Turn 6 and built a 6s advantage in the Corish Motorsports entry.

TFH Racing’s Scott Andriske shared the front-row with the MTA NSW-supported entry of Kody Garland, but it was the latter winning the start.

A lock up for Garland at the hairpin opened the door for Andriske on the back sweeper as Harvey and Joel Heinrich in the Osborn’s Transport entry began to form a breakaway group.

Harvey made his first move by taking the lead at Turn 6 on lap 3, with Heinrich also gaining a position on Andriske to be third.

Further in the pack, a recovering Des Collier completed a robust pass at Turn 5 in the second TFH Racing entry forcing Gold Cup leader Scott Dornan off track and later into retirement for the Action Line Marking team.

While all this was happening, Garland snatched back the lead and behind the lead quartet, Reece Chapman was making moves in the Motorsport25/Racer Industries Mustang after demoting Riskie Racing’s Brandon Madden.

Garland and Harvey had begun to skip away from the chasing Heinrich, but the three-time series winner was starting to haul the duo back before chaos ensued.

Importantly, Harvey took the lead back and Garland then lost further position to Heinrich until a battle further back led to significant contact.

Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises driver Asher Johnston tapped the rear of the Butler Fabrications entry of Denis Butler, which spun the latter. Fight MND’s Jeff Watters made contact with Butler in avoidance, while the Axil Coffee Roasters Camaro of David Makin took to the infield.

An engine problem for Chapman dropped oil on the track as Harvey scored the win from Garland and Andriske.

A late problem for Heinrich dropped him to seventh as Madden, Masters Cup winner Kent Quinn for Norganic Proteins Australia and the lead Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises entry of Jack Boyd took advantage.

Gold Cup was won by Riskie Racing’s Joseph Andriske in eighth outright from Ryan Reynolds in the Reynovate Constrictions Mustang and Cody Mckay.

Caleb Paterson charged through the field to win Rookie Cup from Kyle Lovering and Kim Andersen.

Behind Andriske in Gold Cup was Makin as Watters, Butler and Dornan all retired.

Quinn and Mckay led the way in Masters Cup from Troy Jones.

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Series presented by TFH Hire will continue for the third race of the weekend featuring an inverted grid is scheduled for 8:00am AEST tomorrow live on Kayo and Fox Sports 506.
