Round Five Super Sprint Weekend Wrap

(Checkout our gallery of images here on the Aussie Racing Cars Facebook Page.) THE FIFTH round of the Aussie Racing Cars 2017 Championship was held at Sydney Motorsport Park under cold and extremely windy conditions last weekend. Defending champion James Duckworth (RDA Brakes Camaro) stamped his mark once more on the field after winning the same round last year.  Fastest in qualifying Duckworth won 3 of the 4 races and finished second in race three, he also set a new lap record of 1:42.9783 on Sunday morning, Kel Treseder (KKP Motorsport Camaro) continued to improve his form to take second outright for the weekend with Blake Sciberras (Western Sydney Motorsport Mustang) banking a healthy set of points to come home third. The weekend got off…

All Eyes on Sydney Round Five

ITS ALMOST 12 months since the Aussie Racing Cars visited Sydney Motorsport Park (SMP) the class was there in September last year where they featured on the NSW CAMS Championship round, this year, like all of the 7 rounds the pocket rockets feature on the under-card with the Supercars. A field of 31 cars are entered for the four race weekend, this Friday the drivers will get two runs on the Eastern Creek based circuit.  Amazingly the practice session kicks off at 7.05am so the guys and gals will be expecting a cool start to the day, qualifying is at a more respectable time of 11.20-11.40am, the 20 minute session is where it all has to come together, there are at least 10-12 cars that…

Round Four Townsville 400 Weekend Wrap

MANY OF the Aussie Racing Car teams were quite pleased to be heading north last week, temps in Sydney and Melbourne saw their days starting around 1C, whereas winter in North Queensland saw the drivers and crews basking in 18-27C the entire time. Twenty-six cars had made the trek north, 25 were on track, the 1 missing was Shane Dale’s FG Holden which just happened to be Mark Duckworth’s first ever Aussie Racing Car, Mark is the father of our current champion James, Dales car was on display in the ARC Pits all weekend.  (see our Facbook Gallery for photos of this old car). Also missing in action was Ruth Bowler, she has been a little unwell lately and we (and her fans) missed her…

Round Three Barbagello Perth Weekend Wrap

THE THIRD round of the seven round 2017 series saw the teams make the longest haul by road, well for the truck drivers that is, the road trip is at least two to three days from the main centres, across the Nullabor into Perth. It's been a couple of years since the pocket rockets have had a hit out on the Western Australian circuit and this was the second time only they have visited.  Once again like the previous round more than half the field had not run on the Perth circuit, but it didn’t take them long to get the feel for it. Barbagello Raceway is characteristically a slippery track, the run offs are deep sand traps and often this is dragged onto the…

2017 PERTH SUPER SPRINT RACE REPORTS

Below you will find the Tasmanian Super Sprint Race Reports from last weekend. Visit the Gallery of Images on our Facebook Page Races Three and Four - Round 3 Barbagallo Raceway Sunday Wrap. THREE RACE wins and a third has given Craig Woods the overall round three victory in the Aussie Racing Cars Championship Series at Barbagallo Raceway today. Woods followed up his two Saturday victories with a third in the reverse top-eleven race three on Sunday morning and then fought back from third early to dominate race four. He started his Western Sydney Motorsport KIA Penrith Mustang off pole in the last but was beaten away by Kel Treseder in his The Kart Centre Camaro. “We swapped our tyres over from right to left for the…

Round Two Symmons Plains Tasmania Weekend Wrap

The second round of the 2017 Aussie Racing Cars Championship held last weekend at Symmons Plains would have to be the wettest race car event the series has ever been to in its almost 20 year history.  Friday lulled the competitors into thinking a fine race meeting was on the cards with clear skies and 25C temps.  Alas it wasn’t to continue. Friday saw the pocket rockets have two practice sessions, this is a great time for the new teams to get a real feel for the short but flowing track, half of the drivers had never raced at this venue.  The hot weather made for great times and allowed the teams to assess the new Kumho tyres on a full-time race circuit having only…

Only One Overseas Round this Year!

The Aussie Racing Cars for the past couple of years have travelled overseas for one or two rounds, the New Zealand rounds were a fantastic show for the Kiwis to enjoy, the class has visited both the North and South Islands at three race tracks being Highlands Park, Hampton Downs and Pukekohe Park. This year’s overseas trip is a bit tongue ‘n’ cheek – so to speak – the championship this week heads to Launceston in Tasmania.  The trucks will already be loaded and heading to Melbourne for the sea journey across Bass Straight ready for unpacking on Thursday. Its two years since the pocket rockets have raced around the small but flowing circuit at Symmons Plains. In 2015 Adam Gowans was top of the…

Clipsal 500 Weekend Wrap

Over the summer off season many of the teams sit down and study their data from the past season, some will look at it in depth and begin formulating their plans for the 2017 series, some will wonder “what happened”, and others will make the leap and invest in new cars or newer parts. And there will be as always “newbies” to the game, they are our rookies this year, they’ll either purchase or lease a car and run it themselves or they’ll work with one of the established teams and some will just purchase the drive. Whatever their situation, for 2017 it's going to be a great year.  Clipsal has just proven this! The first Aussie Racing Cars Championship has been run and won,…

Visit the Gallery of Images on our Facebook Page Race Four Report Sunday A WIN in the fourth and final race of the Aussie Racing Cars Championship Series first round on the streets of Adelaide has made for the perfect start for defending title holder James Duckworth. Duckworth drove his RDA Brakes Nissan Altima to an immediate lead in the finale and only yielded the front running on the final lap. Kel Treseder (The Kart Centre Chev Camaro) slipped past him to be first across the line but was given a post-race penalty for contact that spun Craig Woods’ KIA Penrith Ford Mustang at turn 14 on the sixth lap. He was relegated…
