Round Two Symmons Plains Tasmania Weekend Wrap

The second round of the 2017 Aussie Racing Cars Championship held last weekend at Symmons Plains would have to be the wettest race car event the series has ever been to in its almost 20 year history.  Friday lulled the competitors into thinking a fine race meeting was on the cards with clear skies and 25C temps.  Alas it wasn’t to continue. Friday saw the pocket rockets have two practice sessions, this is a great time for the new teams to get a real feel for the short but flowing track, half of the drivers had never raced at this venue.  The hot weather made for great times and allowed the teams to assess the new Kumho tyres on a full-time race circuit having only…

Only One Overseas Round this Year!

The Aussie Racing Cars for the past couple of years have travelled overseas for one or two rounds, the New Zealand rounds were a fantastic show for the Kiwis to enjoy, the class has visited both the North and South Islands at three race tracks being Highlands Park, Hampton Downs and Pukekohe Park. This year’s overseas trip is a bit tongue ‘n’ cheek – so to speak – the championship this week heads to Launceston in Tasmania.  The trucks will already be loaded and heading to Melbourne for the sea journey across Bass Straight ready for unpacking on Thursday. Its two years since the pocket rockets have raced around the small but flowing circuit at Symmons Plains. In 2015 Adam Gowans was top of the…

Clipsal 500 Weekend Wrap

Over the summer off season many of the teams sit down and study their data from the past season, some will look at it in depth and begin formulating their plans for the 2017 series, some will wonder “what happened”, and others will make the leap and invest in new cars or newer parts. And there will be as always “newbies” to the game, they are our rookies this year, they’ll either purchase or lease a car and run it themselves or they’ll work with one of the established teams and some will just purchase the drive. Whatever their situation, for 2017 it's going to be a great year.  Clipsal has just proven this! The first Aussie Racing Cars Championship has been run and won,…

Duckworth drove his RDA Brakes Nissan Altima to an immediate lead in the finale and only yielded the front running on the final lap. Kel Treseder (The Kart Centre Chev Camaro) slipped past him to be first across the line but was given a post-race penalty for contact that spun Craig Woods’ KIA Penrith Ford Mustang at turn 14 on the sixth lap. He was relegated…

RINKIN MOTORSPORT – NEWS

New CAMARO & New MANAGER After last season racing with the Duckworth’s, team owner/driver of Rinkin Motorsport, Micheal Rinkin said he learnt so much about what he really should not do and had a quick realisation he is better off  concentrating on only driving at the track.  “I do all the carbs and bits at home, but with all our businesses and another three coming on this year I am extremely time poor and not 21 anymore so if this is going to be fun, something needs to be done” Rinkin said. “After speaking with my wife Gina she said why you don’t just hire someone to free up your time so I thought about it seriously and decided if I was going to pay…

Round 7 Race Reports Pukekohe NZ

Sunday Wrap Round 7 Pukekohe Park Raceway Race Three saw the top ten starters reversed on the grid, normally there would be a full reverse grid but it was deemed the track is too fast and mayhem may ensue! Chris Stevenson (Hertz Camaro) was on pole but got swamped in the first few laps dropping back to 9th by flag fall, Kyle Clews (Darrell Lea STIX / Rinkin Racing Nissan Altima) started well and lead the race for a couple of laps chasing hard was Angus Fogg (propertytutors.com Holden Cruze), Grant Ludbey (The Torque Team Euro GT) and Blake Sciberras (Millennium Building Group Mustang). Sciberras made a jump on the field on lap three and took the lead through to the chequered flag, on the…

Round 6 Hampton Downs Race Reports

Race Four Hampton Downs Rnd 6 Race four was the final points race for the 2016 Aussie Racing Cars Championship and without a doubt it was one of the most hard fought races the class has had all year. Craig Thompson (Western Sydney Motorsport Mustang) spun on the first lap that unfortunately saw three or four cars retire from the race. However up the front of the field it was an exciting multi-pass race with Kel Treseder (KPP Motorsport Camaro), Craig Woods (Western Sydney Motorsport Mustang) and Peter Carr (Erina Fair Medical Centre Toyota Aurion) running two and three wide with passing into turn one happening just about every lap and at many of the other passing opportunities that the Hampton Downs circuit provides. All…

Aussie Racing Cars Round 7 Pukekohe Park Raceway

The final round for the 2016 Aussie Racing Cars Championship is at Pukekohe Park Raceway just 50kms south of Auckland City.  It’s an invitational, non-points round alongside the Supercars again.  This is the first time the class has had an event at the circuit.  Brendon Pingel (Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze) went for a walk around the track, “it’s fast, it looks very fast with a few bumps to, I’m looking forward to it”. Without the pressure of season points many of the drivers and teams will be working hard on winning the round points.  Pukekohe Park lends itself to close pack racing 2-3 wide from the Aussie Cars, the fast front and back straights will see the fastest drivers diving for position into the…

Charlotte Poynting Trumps Aussie Racing Cars in New Zealand

Missing the first round at Clipsal for Charlotte Poynting was a tough way to start the 2016 series and may have cost her a shot at the Ladies Trophy especially after winning all the other rounds, however from there on for the year Poynting has continued to grow and mature in the championship. A lot of pressure was loaded onto her for the last round of the series after being selected to represent Australia in the inaugural CAMS Trans-Tasman Women’s Challenge in Race Two at Hampton Downs.  Standing for New Zealand was NZV8 racer Alyssa Claperton. Charlotte has recounted her weekend below. “What an awesome weekend! After a stressful practice day and being well off the pace I finally found my feet for qualifying which…
