Aussie Racing Cars Bathurst Weekend Wrap

It was a challenging round 5 of the 2015 Aussie Racing Cars Championship at Mount Panorama, Bathurst.  The pocket rockets fielded more cars than any other category at the mountain with the main aim to put on an unforgettable show, and they did! The excitement started to build on Tuesday when the teams started making their way to the mountain.  By Wednesday the pits were full and the teams were buzzing, the cars were being prepared ready to tackle the tough 23 cornered circuit. Mount Panorama is classed as Australia’s mecca for motorsport, only used as a circuit 3-4 times per year the other 360+ days it’s a tourist route where you can take your daily drive for a stroll.  If you have been lucky…

Western Sydney Motorsport Bathurst High Hopes

Heading up to the Bathurst 1000 from our base in Western Sydney we had high hopes for a good showing on our first outing there. In reality we were plagued with problems from the outset. A failed engine ignition for car #78 (Grant Thompson) in qualifying, and blown gearbox for car #72 (Craig Thompson) in race 1 and an engine change for #64 (Craig Woods) after qualifying in search of some additional power created lots of distraction for us and we weren’t able to gain any type of decent momentum over the weekend. We weren’t alone in this department with all the teams having to deal with race 2 being cancelled and race 3 being declared a non race after the serious crash involving our…

Advantage Motorsport Bathurst Wrap

This year’s trip to Bathurst was a vast improvement on last years for the Advantage Motorsport team of Chris Stevenson and Jeff Watters. Heading into the round in 4th place-Stevenson has left the mountain in 2nd place,  with a 4 point lead on Adam Uebergang in 3rd. Watters also consolidated 3rd  in the Gold  Cup class-with a season best finish of 16th in Race 4. The weekend was marred by several huge crashes-Chaz Mostert's crash in Qualifying for the V8s  resulted in Race 2 being cancelled, then Damian Flacks massive rollover caused the Aussie Race 3 to be red flagged and declared a non race. The weekend started well for Stevenson-with him topping the time sheets for much of practice and finishing in 5th. Watters…

Masini Tops Qualifying at Bathurst

AS HE did at the previous round, Maurice Masini has gone fastest in qualifying for round five of the AUSSIE RACING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP at Bathurst today. The Penrith Car Sales Ford Mustang driver went to within two tenths of the lap record with his pole-earning qualifier which came right at the conclusion of the session. Masini had been the fastest initially before being bested by Adrian Flack (A Gas National Euro GT) and later James Abela (Horsley Park Gun Shop Toyota Aurion). Series points leader Brendon Pingel was also in contention in his Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze. It was at the end of the session when Abela and Flack, circulating together, were taking the battle for pole right to the line, and it appeared…

Bathurst Official Practice

JUST AS the chequered flag came out to complete official practice for round five of the AUSSIE RACING CARS CHAMPIONSHIP at Bathurst, Damien Flack notched up the first bragging rights by edging out series leader Brendon Pingel for the fastest time. In an incident-free session Flack flung his Automotive Holdings Group Euro GT-bodied racer around Mt Panorama with a best lap time of 2 minutes 34.3121seconds to be almost half a second faster than Pingel and his Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze. Maurice Masini (Ford Mustang) in only his second Aussie Racing Cars outing for the year, and the fastest qualifier at the last round (Sydney Motorsport Park), was third fastest ahead of current championship title holder Darren Chamberlin (Darrel Lea Stix Mustang). Chris Stevenson…

MAURICE MASINI weathered the Onslaught

MAURICE MASINI weathered the onslaught of Adrian Flack to win the first race of the fifth round of the AUSSIE RACE CARS CHAMPIONSHIP at Bathurst this morning. Masini started his Penrith Car Sales Ford Mustang-bodied racer from pole position and went straight to the lead of the seven-lap event while fellow front row starter James Abela only moved a couple of centimetres when his Horsley Park Gun Shop Toyota Aurion lost drive. Fortunately he was not collected by any of the 31 starters behind him and eventually managed to get mobile before pulling off the track halfway through the first lap. In the meantime Flack (A Gas National Euro GT) moved to second spot, ahead of Brendon Pingel (Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze) while Damien…

Brendon Pingel wins at Bathurst

Brendon Pingel has won round five of the AUSSIE RACING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP at Mt Panorama, and increases his points lead with two rounds remaining. Pingel who was driving a Holden Cruze-bodied racer was ecstatic with the win. “It is my first round win of the season and to get that last race in trying conditions was great.” Second in the third race, and overall, went to Maurice Masini and his ARC Mustang. “I ended up with a few battle scars but the highlight was getting pole and winning race one,” he said. He actually crossed the line third behind Jon McCorkindale (Mustang) but the latter was deemed to have jumped prematurely at the restart after a safety car. The penalty was two race positions which…

Aussie Racing Cars set to do Battle at the Mountain

It is without a doubt the Bathurst 1000 is Australasia’s biggest racing event outside of the F1, “the punters” come from far and wide, and indeed so do our drivers and teams, we’ll field cars from every state this coming weekend. The current Aussie Racing Car Lap record is 2:32.5206 held by Peter Carr which he set back in 2011 in his Toyota Aurion, we expect to see race times of around two minutes 34 seconds, of course this will depend upon the track conditions and the long range forecast sees rain for Saturday but fine Thursday and Friday. The ARC track time will start early into the event, with the pocket rockets hitting the track at 8.15am on Thursday for the 20 minute practice…

Aussie Racing Cars get behind Cure MND Foundation

Media Release: The Pocket Rocket Aussie Racing Cars are set to rock the Mountain next weekend with 45 cars on the grid.  “We are not racing for sheep stations but the guys and girls in our class fight hard for position on the track, when they come back to the pits there’s jokes and laughs about who dove down the inside or who went 3 wide over skyline, its great it’s a real family fun atmosphere” says Brad Ward the Category Manager. “Recently I was made aware of a very serious side to life, one of our drivers Jeff Watters from Melbourne rung me about an insidious disease call Motor Neurone Disease or MND that’s effecting some of his family friends.  Jeff wanted to help find…
