Race Three Report
Race three was always going to be a “humdinger” of a race being a full reverse grid and handicapped event and it sure was! It was going to be tough for the front runners to come through to the front on the short Symmons Plains circuit. The fact that it was a handicapped race was lost on a couple of drivers when 3 cars from the second group jumped with the three off the front. On pole was Ruth Bowler with Alan Smith alongside, heading off in the first group was also Michael Rinkin, the latter took full advantage of the starting position and managed to hold onto a credible 6th place from Adam Gowan’s who climbed to 5th from the rear of the grid.
Also off the back was Darren Chamberlin whom diced with Gowans all the way through the field to finish 4th.
Another driver to have his best ever finish was the team leader from Western Sydney Motorsport Craig Thompson in 7th place, “I just can’t put into words how I’m feeling right now finished 7th in race three. I have so much adrenaline right now. I gave it everything I had”, he said on Social Media after the race.
The eventual race winner was Ryan Cochran (Euro GT) after a great battle with Kent Quinn, this weekend was Cochran’s first run in the Aussie Racing Car.
Heading into the last race for the weekend Gowans is on 148 Points with both Chamberlin and Uebergang on 145.
