Race 3 Report

It dawn a fine day in Darwin, wait it does that for 6 months of the year, and the sound of screaming pocket rockets woke the Darwin crowd, ok that’s a bit soft.  Lets try this, the first race for Sunday for ARC followed the Improved Product/Commodore Cup/HQ race, but luckily for us it went better than theirs which was abandoned after a start line shunt, which saw four cars collide with a fiery result. (All ok)

Race 3 was a full reverse grid staggered start, and once again it was exciting, the format spreads the field a bit with a 10 second gap between each of the 3 groups, Craig Thompson (Western Sydney Motorsport) was off pole and got a flying start leading the first couple of laps but finished 22 after a spin at turn 14.  This handed the lead to Kent Quinn in the VIP Petfoods Holden Cruze who went on to win.

This format sets up the class for great racing with bigger than normal bunches of cars swapping positions in every corner, we had them 4 wide down the front straight into turn one.  Grant Ludbey (The Torque) drove a steady race to finish in second place from Chris Stevenson in third (Team Hertz).  The fast boys coming from the back had the hardest task slipping past slower cars as well as keeping up with each other, Paul Morris made it up to fourth with James Abela biting at his heels and Adrian Flack continued his good run to finish 6th.  Unfortunately the Darwin Hyundai team of Freddie Hunt & Tim Macrow both failed to finish, with one going off an unable to restart and the other had wiring issues.

Our final race for the weekend grid positions are decided by accumulative points from the first 3 races and sees Morris off P1 and Uebergang off P2 at 3.40PM local time.

Congratulations to all our drivers and teams for putting on an absolutely amazing display of racing this weekend at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway, our class had some of, if not the best races all weekend.  You could throw a blanket over the finishes we had in every race!
