Practice Friday

We’ve had our only track session for today, a 20 minute practice session, almost half the field squeezed in 13 laps over the session, that’s one more than our race lengths for the weekend.  The Hidden Valley circuit has had a resurface recently and the track is quite “grippy” as described by series defending champ Darren Chamberlin.  “We and a number of the drivers are suffering from understeer”, said Chamberlin who was only 11th fastest.

Quickest for this session was former double Gold Star winner Tim Macrow in the Hyundai Elantra from Toowoomba’s Adam Uebergang (Euro GT) with V8Supercar Driver Paul Morris in a Nissan Altima third fastest.

Freddy Hunt was 11th fastest for his first ever drive in an Aussie Racing Car.

The Flack brothers have shown some early speed with Damien ahead of Adrian by point two of a second for 4th & 5th respectively.  Current series leader Brendon Pingel sits in 6th from second place in the series Craig Woods.  Its early days yet, almost all of the drivers are first time visitors to Darwin’s Hidden Valley.

We’ve just had our qualifying here at Hidden Valley and yesterday’s flyers are still at the top although Tim Macrow dropped back to 4th spot on the grid after blitzing the regulars yesterday.  Paul Morris (Nissan Altima) proved he’s quick in any car by taking pole for race one with a 1:18.264 from Adam Uebergang (Euro GT) with Adrain Flack (Euro GT) third on the grid.  After Macrow is young James Abela in the Toyota Aurion, series leader Brendon Pingel is 6th, followed by Damien Flack, Freddie Hunt, Darren Chamberlin and Sunshine Coast’s Ben Walsh rounds out the top 10.
