GETTING OUT early was the key to a reasonable practice lap time in a soggy first session of Aussie Racing Cars at Phillip Island today.

In the one and only round six practice session before qualifying later today, rain dictated a dour first outing for the pocket rockets at the Victorian island circuit.

As the rain coincided with the start of the 20-minute session, Chris Stevenson (Hertz Nissan Altima) currently lying second in the points, was the first to head the time sheets with a 1 minute 57.7844 before Adam Uebergang’s Euro GT went half a second quicker. The latter is third in the points tally.

Then the rain tumbled down, nullifying any chance of faster times by any one.

Third fastest for the session went to James Duckworth (RDA Brakes Euro GT) who was the only other driver to get a lap in under two minutes. Brendon Tucker (Variety Group Ford Falcon) was next ahead of championship series leader Brendon Pingel (Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze).

Craig Woods (West Sydney Motorsport Ford Mustang) finished the session sixth ahead of Kent Quinn (VIP Holden Cruze), Blake Scibberas (West Sydney Motorsport Toyota Aurion), Trent Young (Young Racing Nissan Altima) and defending title holder Darren Chamberlin (Darrell Lea Stix Chev Camaro) rounded out the top ten.

After completing his racing season in Porsche GT3 Challenge, Jon McCorkindale was back for another drive in the Scotty Taylor Motorsport Mustang after a successful outing at Bathurst and was eleventh fastest ahead of Michael Rinkin (Mosen Motors/Hertz Altima, Adrian Flack (A GAS National Euro GT) and the Allen Smith Falcon.

Qualifying for the sixth round of the Aussie Racing Cars Championship Series is scheduled for 11:45am before the first of four races takes place tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10:35am.
