2010 Aussie Racing Car CAMS Young Gun announced
4 March 2010

This season the privilege of racing under the banner has been confirmed to be 16 year old South Australian Rhys Newman.

The CAMS Aussie Young Gun program is a joint initiative between CAMS and Aussie Racing Cars that has been developed to give up and coming stars a real opportunity to compete at a National level in a true racing car for a fraction of the cost of any other racing category.

Newman has been a regular competitor in Karting for the past 9 years and has achieved an enviable record of success in many state Championships including winning the Rotax Max Juniors and the SA Festival Cup. Last year he had great first up season of circuit racing  in Formula Vee winning the Shannon's Formula Vee nationals and the SA rookie of the year award.

"Our Aussie Young Gun squad will give  Rhys a chance to perform at the big events in a National Championship where ability is the key factor in success',said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain,'his previous success behind the wheel of various cars will put him in good stead and enable him develop his driving talent in this high profile and very competitive racing category"

Newman has strong personal support in his home state from iconic racing identities such as John Walker and Vern Schuppan who have played an active role in his driving and personal development and approach to his Motorsport activities.

"I am really excited about the season in Aussie Racing Cars' quipped Newman at a recent Eastern Creek test day, 'the car is really challenging to drive and the more laps I do and the harder I push it the more it rewards you. They appear to move around a lot when you watch them from outside but it is surprisingly very stable when you are behind the wheel, the car has much more grip than I expected and can see that the harder I drive it the more grip it will generate, I cant wait to get out there in front of my home town crowd at Clipsal.

2009 Young Gun Garry Jacobson will contest this season at the wheel of the Fujitsu backed Garry Rogers Motorsport Aussie Racing Car after he impressed the V8 Team owner last season at the wheel of the Young Gun squad racing car.

"We have had a long association with Aussie Racing Cars and I see the category as an important driver training platform where skills can be honed in a fast, tough and never boring racing environment ,noted Garry Rogers,"I will be keeping a close eye on both Jacobson and Newman this season"

Aussie Racing Car boss Phil Ward has also been impressed with Newman's on track performance to date" Rhys really has the right attitude to his driving and from his first laps in the car I can see has plenty of ability to do really well. Our cars really  have an open wheeler feel particularly in the way that you have to get on the power early to propel the car from the turns and Rhys has shown he has the basic understanding of what he has to do to achieve the most out of the car. I am thrilled that we have the opportunity at Aussie Racing Cars in conjunction with CAMS to be able to give these young drivers a good leg up in the sport"

The first round of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series kicks off on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500,information on how you can join Rhys Newman on the track and become a part of this great category can be found on www.aussieracingcars.com.au
