TOYOTA AURION WINS AT EASTERN CREEK
10 August 2009

Tasmanian Adam Gowans driving the Eagle one Toyota Aurion Aussie Racing Car has won Round 4 of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Eastern Creek today after a meeting-long battle for supremacy in the huge field of cars.

The event was a combined 2 plus 4 motorcycle and car race meeting with the Australian Superbike Championship run over 2 heats and Aussie Racing Cars being run over 4 heats.

This is a historic round win for Toyota being the first since the new Aurion body style was introduced in to the category towards the end of last season. Although Aurions have been leading at the front of the pack at each round and have won races it is the first time the marque has scored a round victory.

“This was my first win for Toyota and it feels great,” Gowans said.

“We have come close on a few occasions, but I feel like I have the momentum now to be on top for the rest of the season.

The racing was incredibly tight with cars slipstreaming into 5 wide at up to 200KPH plus passing moves on the main straight with the winner of each heat being decided in a photo finishes every time.  Gowans finished equal on points with series leader David Lawrence driving the Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodore requiring a count-back on points back to qualifying to confirm Gowans win.

The front pack saw a gaggle of Aurions having a sniff of the lead as well. Brad Ward, driving the #14 Toyota Motor Corporation entry and television personality Neil Crompton in the #15 Toyota Team entry were right in the thick of the action in the lead bunch.

“I thoroughly enjoyed driving the car and pushing myself to improve, the second race today especially was a great blast. That was real racing the way it should be,” said Neil Crompton as he climbed smiling from the car.

Michael Hovey, driver the QK Technologies Aurion and Darren Berry driver of the Clipper Motor Yachts Team Aurion put in a fantastic first up performance in their brand new cars in the Masters Cup section of the Series.

“I was a tad nervous going into the first couple of races in the brand new car but as I got more laps under my belt I got faster and faster and more relaxed,” said Hovey.

“I was sitting right there in the top 20 and the car felt just fantastic till I went in a bit too hot around corporate hill and had a lose.

“Like in my business I am always striving to do better and racing the Aurion will be no different; next event I am confident I will finish much higher up.”

Shane Wolki had his best event this season driving the Loctite Toyota Aurion. The striking red and yellow colour scheme is a real stand out in the field and it was not hard to spot the car in the lead group at every turn. Wolki finished the round in 3rd place in the Masters section of the Series.

Lawrence is now on top of the series table after previous leader Clews finished fourth this weekend after a penalty took vital points away.

The Aussie Racing Cars Super Series now heads to Oran Park for Round 5 on August 29-30.
