GOWANS WINS AUSSIE RACING CARS ROUND AT EASTERN CREEK
9 August 2009

Tasmanian Adam Gowans has won Round 4 of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Eastern Creek today after a meeting-long battle with series rivals Kyle Clews and David Lawrence.

Gowans, who won his home round in Tasmania last year was thrilled with the win on ‘enemy territory’.

“This was my first win on the mainland and it feels great,” Gowans said.

“We have come close on a few occasions and fallen over at the last hurdle, but I feel like we have the momentum now.

Gowans finished equal on points with Lawrence but a count-back to qualifying gave Gowans the win.

Lawrence is now on top of the series table after previous leader Clews finished fourth this weekend after a penalty took vital points away.

Ironically it was a clash with Lawrence in race 2 that took a win from Clews, who otherwise dominated the meeting, and cost him his second round win of the year.

2008 Series Champion Paul Kemal mad a successful comeback finishing third for the round while Maurice Masini not only had his best result in 5th outright but won the Masters Cup as well.

Masini was close to the front of the field all meeting, and easily the best Masters Cup entry.

Mark Duckworth finished second in the Masters Cup in his first meeting for the year while Masters Cup points leader Darren Chamberlin came back from a slow start to finish third.

As for our celebrity drivers, Neil Crompton put on a good show and finished 12th outright in his Toyota Aurion while Top Gear Australia’s Steve Pizzati rolled spectacularly out of the meeting in race 3 but stayed on to encourage the field from the grand stand in race 4.

The Super Series now heads to Oran Park for Round 5 on August 29-30.
