Aussie Racing Cars and Superbikes hit top gear at eastern creek
6 August 2009
A huge field will line up when Top Gear Australia presenter Steve Pizzati has his first drive in an Aussie Racing Car at round 4 of the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series which will support the Australian Superbike Championship at Eastern Creek this weekend.
"I have been really keen to have a drive of an Aussie Racing Car as the category is so popular,V8 Supercar driver Cameron McConville is a mate of mine and he has been singing the praises of the since he had a drive so it was an easy decision for me to confirm to the ASBK organisers that I would be a starter",explained Pizzati.
"I am really looking forward to my first session on Friday."
The weekend will also see the return of Neil Crompton driving the factory backed Toyota Aurion he debuted at Indy last season.
"I am pretty busy these days with my commentary commitments so it is great to be able to have the time this weekend to get another run in the car,” Neil said.
“They are true racing machines that give you a huge personal satisfaction and reward for driver effort,” Crompton remarked earlier this week.
“Eastern Creek’s turn 1 is taken almost flat out which really grabs your attention at around 200KPH particularly when the cars can be 2 and 3 wide beside you."
Reigning Champion Paul Kemal has come out of retirement to contest the round.
"Although my car is for sale I still love racing in the category and couldn't resist the lure to pull it off the market for the weekend and get back behind the wheel at Eastern Creek,” he said.
This is going to be a fabulous event having cars and bikes racing on the same program."
Series points leader, Kyle Clews will be looking to stave off his nearest rival David Lawrence who is just one point behind.
Both drivers have won a round of the series each in their bid to become champion for the first time.
Competing on the same card as the Australian Superbike Championship there is going to plenty of action over the weekend.
