AUSSIE RACING CARS...YOUR CHANCE TO GET INTO THE ACTION!
20 fEBRUARY 2008

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented young driver to become a 'CAMS Aussie Young Gun' and compete in the Aussie Racing Cars National Series.

This is a joint initiative between CAMS and Aussie Racing Cars and demonstrates both organisations' commitment to driver development and a renewed partnership.

This initiative integrates into the overall CAMS Sports Development Program and provides the selected driver with an opportunity to compete in this exciting and highly entertaining category in 2008, commencing at the 2008 FORMULA 1(tm) ING Australian Grand Prix.

The opportunity comes with a significant subsidy in the cost to the driver, in recognition of the organisation's commitment to fostering young participation in the sport.  The driver will need to make a financial contribution towards their involvement in the program, but this amount is significantly less than what would normally be required to enter this level of competition.

The 'CAMS Aussie Young Gun' will be allocated a vehicle in this category, liveried with a special design and CAMS branding, includes scheduled maintenance, pre-race preparation, transportation, technical race assistance, track support, availability of spare engines and spare parts at the track and emergency crash repairs performed at the race track.

The driver selection and development will be administered through the existing CAMS Sports Development Programs and is the responsibility of CAMS.

"The program is intended to be used as a potential pathway for drivers to progress to higher levels of the sport and is an ideal opportunity for a young driver elevating from karting into circuit racing," said Aussie Racing Cars Category Manager, Phil Ward.

CAMS CEO Graham Fountain stated "This is a clear demonstration of our commitment, in partnership with Aussie Racing Cars, to proactively advancing young drivers and our clear focus on sports development.  This provides the selected driver with an opportunity to enter into the sport at a significantly reduced cost than would otherwise be required."

"The Aussie Racing Car category is well recognised as a successful, exciting and entertaining category within CAMS, and the renewed partnership between the organisations is hopefully the first where we can partner our key stakeholders in establishing these types of proactive initiatives in the overall interests of the sport."
