The second to last round for the 2015 Aussie Racing Cars gets under way in just 3 days, many of the teams have already begun the trip south, our third overseas if you like 😉

Last year this round was our final for 2014 and the championship was almost already decided, Darren Chamberlin (Chambo) was the eventual champion in the end after a long hard fought year.

Coming into this round Queensland’s Brendon Pingel (296pts) has a strong lead in the championship but not an unassailable one from Victorian Chris Stevenson (267pts) whom has been steady all year long, Pingel has won the last two rounds and is sure to be wanting to continue that form.  Another Queenslander Adam Uebergang sits in third just 4 points behind Stevenson.

In the Masters Cup there’s another close race with Kent Quinn on 296 points from Brendon Tucker on 289, third in the standings is Craig Thompson with 274 points.

The Gold Cup will be interesting to say the least, current leader Allen Smith will be pleased to hear that his closest rival second place holder John Reynolds has retired and actually sold his car, as will Jeff Watters who is sitting in third place, with Reynolds missing he’ll undoubted be heading towards second place, although Michael Rinkin will be striving to stop this as he is only 2 points shy of Watters.

And in our Rookies, New South Welshman Grant Thompson leads Ben Walsh (QLD) by 30 points after Walsh missed the SMP round, Myles Bond missed the first round and is in third, however we’ve been advised that he’ll stand down for the rest of this season (back in 2016) so this is good news for Blake Sciberras.

The 4.44km 12 corner circuit is well suited to the pocket rocket ARC cars, the high speed track will see a lot of nose to tail drafting or slipstreaming down the long front straight, but come the corners the cars will be 2-3 even 4 wide, this is unlike any other form of racing you’ll see this weekend!

The Aussie Racing Cars will be fielding 36 cars this weekend, make sure if you are at the track to come on over to the ARC Pits and have a chat with our drivers and crew, they love interacting with the crowd and are only too pleased to stop and talk about their cars.

Ruth Bowler (Ruthie Racing Ford Coupe): With a few days to go I can feel the excitement building as we return to the spectacular Phillip Island Circuit! I know I am biased for this, my home sweet home circuit but no one can deny the fabulous four wide racing we put on there! I tested there a couple of weeks back but nothing is better than being there with the rest of the field and this year we are bringing 36 cars to The Island! Come on everyone; word is we may not be back in Victoria before 2017 so make sure you come and see us racing live! Nothing beats it…. unless you have the courage to take a seat and join us! Will you lead the pack down Lukey Heights? Be there!

Jeff Watters (Advantage Motorsport): The shortened Bathurst races helped Chris Stevenson move the #88 Hertz car into 2nd in the championship after a strong qualifying. Unfortunately Jeff in the #96 Cure for MND Foundation car had a poor qualifying so was playing catch up all weekend. Phillip Island is the Advantage Motorsport home track so we’re expecting a strong showing to help Chris consolidate his championship position and Jeff close in on the Gold Cup lead.

Once again the ARC races will feature on Fox Sports, plus we’ll have images and race reports up on our Facebook page and Website over the course of the weekend.
