QUEENSLAND RACEWAY could benefit the home teams at the fourth round of the Aussie Racing Cars Championship Series at the Ipswich circuit.

The event is effectively home turf for the category and many of the teams that reside in the near proximity have been able to test in recent times. It will be more difficult for their interstate rivals as Aussie Racing Cars have not had a series round at this track since 2014.

The home teams may well have the advantage having tested here just days before, however like the Supercars sometimes the home town advantage can get the better of you, and with a packed grid of over 30 cars everyone will be vying for a step on the podium and to bank a fist fill of championship points.

Current series leader James Duckworth (RDA Brakes/Rinkin Racing Nissan Altima) is from New South Wales and he will be looking to familiarise himself with the circuit quickly and hopefully extend his lead. He currently has just a two-point margin from Queenslander Ben Walsh (DR Ink Tattoo Removal Camaro) however Walsh is in a different car this round, one he’s never driven before.

Right behind them in the points hunt is Western Sydney Motorsports speed demon Craig Woods in his Sinclair Ford-supported Ford Mustang. Woods is the only driver to have some racing seat time since Darwin after campaigning the WSM Ford Falcon V8 Ute at the last Supercars round in Townsville two weeks ago.

The 2015 series champion Brendan Pingel (Derek Pingel Racing “Spirit of Lockyer” Holden Cruze) also from Queensland, will be knocking on their doors being just a single point shy of Woods.

The unique pocket rockets are totally suited to the “paper clip” that is QR, the 12-metre wide circuit gives plenty of room for both side-by-side racing as well as pack drafting with cars pushing and being pulled along through slipstreaming.

The circuit also offers great late braking action and with inside diving manoeuvres at turns one, three and six. So make sure to get in early and mark out a spot at these corners.

And of course make sure also that you drop by and say “hello” to all the teams and drivers, they love the opportunity to show off the cars and talk about the event, you’ll also find some of the teams have posters and the likes to take home.

Keep an eye on our Facebook Page and website over the weekend for photos, results and daily wraps.
