It is without a doubt the Bathurst 1000 is Australasia’s biggest racing event outside of the F1, “the punters” come from far and wide, and indeed so do our drivers and teams, we’ll field cars from every state this coming weekend.

The current Aussie Racing Car Lap record is 2:32.5206 held by Peter Carr which he set back in 2011 in his Toyota Aurion, we expect to see race times of around two minutes 34 seconds, of course this will depend upon the track conditions and the long range forecast sees rain for Saturday but fine Thursday and Friday.

The ARC track time will start early into the event, with the pocket rockets hitting the track at 8.15am on Thursday for the 20 minute practice session and then mid-afternoon at 2.15pm the cars will fight it out for the pole position.  The track should be clean by then and the V8’s will have had a couple of session so it should be “rubbered” up nicely too.

The first of four 7 lap races kicks off at 8.35am on Friday morning followed by race two, the final event for Friday at 4.40pm.  Two more races on Saturday at 9.10am and 1.00pm will undoubtedly be crowd pleasers!

Some of the teams have taken the time to send through a few quotes:

Brendon Pingel: Wow SMP was a great event with the challenges of all weather conditions but I loved it!! Now I am so looking forward to once again competing at Australia’s most iconic track, and certainly my favourite Australian circuit, Mount Panorama Bathurst. This event is always fiercely contested so engine speed and performance is going to be critical. Our team has continued to refine my Spirit of Lockyer car so it’s all systems go for an awesome event. I’m looking forward to the challenge of the mountain, and I’m certainly taking nothing for granted, I’m ready said Brendon.

John Reynolds: I have a couple of new sponsors for Bathurst to compliment my Pipeline Xray logistic sponsor.  Additional help has been secured from   a new personalised gift website and from a new fan company “Iconic fans”. I haven’t changed my green/black mustang look though.  Also turned 60 last month so I am thinking this may well be my final ARC event after 4 fun filled years. Bathurst will be great way to celebrate this after probably watching this event every year for the last 40 years!  (DM- we hope it’s not your last John!)

Myles Bond: A dream comes true when I get to race around The Mountain next week, it’s a bucket-list item for sure and I’m super pumped to get behind the wheel for some exciting racing!!

Chris Stevenson: I’m looking to continue my strong run of form from Eastern Creek and continue running in the top 5 in the hope that I can come away from Bathurst with second place in the championship. We were 4th at Eastern Creek and there’s only 2 people I’m focused on beating so smart decisions and top 5 results are my aim!

Jeff Watters: The Advantage Motorsport team have made great progress with the #88 Hertz and the now #96 Cure for MND Foundation cars over the last few events with Chris running strongly in the top 10 and Jeff moving forward in the field too. Bathurst has been a good track for both Chris and Jeff and the team is hoping to continue our strong runs at Bathurst.

Michael Rinkin: Looking forward to Bathurst we have a new crew member to take on the mountain!

Ben Walsh: Heading into Bathurst, Ben Walsh Racing will proudly be displaying the signage of a new naming rights partner, Dr Ink Tattoo Removal. Walsh last appeared at Bathurst finishing in the top ten of the prestigious 3hr event driving a BMW M3R. Walsh said “I’m seriously excited to be returning to Bathurst after watching from the sidelines for the past 15 years. Even though it has been so long, I have belted out a lot of laps at this awesome track in different categories, so I’m upbeat about heading there this weekend with a new sponsor, and the Visper motorsport team”.

We wish all our fans, sponsors, teams and officials safe travel to the event, safety at the event and your journey home.  Don’t forget to come to the Aussie Racing Car pits over the course of the weekend, have a chat to our drivers and teams.

Please show your support for the Cure for MND Foundation, Jeff Watters will have the stickers for sale.

If you cannot get there you can see all our on track events via Fox Sports.  Our media team will be posting photos and post-race reports on our website and Facebook pages, so keep an eye on them.
