Aussie Racing Cars headlining Baskerville 60th anniversary celebrations as part of 2018 calendar
Aussie Racing Cars is proud to announce its 2018 calendar with the news that the popular national category will headline the historic Baskerville Raceway’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
The 19th season of Aussie Racing Cars will begin at Baskerville Raceway on February 23-25, the same month in which the Hobart circuit opened in 1958. While the series has not visited Baskerville since 2006, it has held a round in Tasmania for seven of the past 10 seasons, including this year’s Supercars event at Symmons Plains.
Aussie Racing Cars will also feature on the support card for Supercars’ first ever visit to The Bend Motorsport Park in August. Set to be a world class facility, the South Australian venue is still under construction and will become Aussie Racing Cars’ second new circuit in as many seasons after the series had the honour being first on track at the inaugural Newcastle 500.
In total, there will be five rounds run with the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, beginning with Round 2 of the series at Phillip Island. There is sure to be plenty of slipstreaming action when the cars run in high-downforce trim for the first time since the last round at Australia’s MotoGP venue two years ago.
Round 3 is a trip to Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria for the first time since 2013, before Aussie Racing Cars heads north to Queensland Raceway for Round 4, and takes in The Bend for Round 5.
The series will link up with Shannons Nationals for the penultimate round of the season at Sydney Motorsport Park. Reflecting the variety on offer in 2018, SMP will be the first repeat circuit from this year’s calendar.
The decisive seventh round takes place at the glamorous Gold Coast 600, where drivers will snake their way between the concrete walls next to the city’s famous beaches.
Category manager Brad Ward said that he was pleased with how the 2018 Aussie Racing Cars calendar had turned out.
“We’re very excited to be able to share in two significant moments next year, the first as the main drawcard when Baskerville Raceway celebrates its 60th anniversary, and the second being a part of Supercars’ historic first Tailem Bend round,” said Ward.
“This year was another thrilling series and we have no reason to believe that 2018 will be any different with the new challenges on offer”.
