First ARC Race: My first race was Eastern Creek 2008. Having previously been involved in a saloon car class pit crew it was time to see if I could actually drive. It’s not easy but I have the passion and determination and, besides, it’s exciting to compete at this level.
Thoughts on joining the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series: The Aussie Racing Car Super Series allows all drivers to seriously test their skills at any level. I joined the series with the desire to step out my comfort zone to challenge a few more stereotypes and see just how far I can push my race car, and myself, to the limits. I may not be leading the pack (yet!) but nothing beats the thrill of actually being in the chase!
Comments about the Aussie Racing Cars: The performance of the Aussie Racing Cars continues to astonish me each time I drive! They are simply phenomenal and the evenness of the vehicles means skilled drivers are testing their abilities as competitors and not necessarily the performance of the car. The forgiveness and durability of the construction never ceases to amaze me – the car can give so much more than I am yet to test.
Favourite Track(s):
Hard to say: Oran Park has been the home of Aussie Racing Cars and the figure eight circuit is great to drive. Circuits like Winton, Wakefield and Sandown are great for spectators and provide more access to teams that the street circuits. Although we don’t compete there, I still have a soft spot for the sweeping lines and views of Phillip Island – come on Victoria! Lobby to get our series down to the Island!
Would you encourage more women to take up racing?

Participating in motor sport is extremely rewarding but not everyone is able to mix it up with professional drivers and serious contenders. I chose this category as the series enables everyone to participate at their own level from rookie through to highly skilled career professionals. It’s really up to you how far you want to take it and what you want to get out of the sport.

I derive a lot of personal enjoyment from competing in the series and would encourage anyone interested in racing to get involved. Honestly, I just don’t understand it! If you are interested enough to read this then you ought to be involved with the sport as a driver, a pit crew member, an official or sponsor. If you can’t run your own team then leasing a car might be a realistic option.

Stop dreaming and come and give it go!
Point of interest: Ruth is the only female competing in the Aussie Racing Cars 2008 SuperSeries and one of only two female drivers competing in circuit races at a National level.
