Behind the scenes with Brendon Pingel – Taking round 1 victory on the streets of Adelaide!

I was so excited to start the 2016 series with our Spirit of Lockyer car running the coveted number 1. At the same time we were deeply saddened at the sudden loss of our Mayor Steve Jones who had been such a great support to me over the past few years. He died unexpectedly a few days before the Clipsal round, and this made it really difficult for me but even more so for dad who had worked so closely with Steve on the Lockyer Valley Council for the past 4 years. He was a great mate and I made a personal pledge to honour him with a drive to win at my favourite street circuit. Practice and qualifying went really well. The team made…

NZ Racing Cars ready for first track appearance

New Zealand motorsport fans will have a brand-new motor racing championship to enjoy this summer with the launch of the NZ Racing Cars Championship which uses exactly the same fast, half-size race cars as the entertaining Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.   The Aussie Racing Cars are hugely well-supported with fields of up to 55 cars at some events, making it the largest motorsport category in Australia and one which is frequently voted the most entertaining support category at Australian V8 Supercar events. In 2014, Aussie Racing Cars marked its tenth anniversary of being an official support category for V8 Supercars, a partnership which continues in 2016. The Aussie Racing Cars made a one-off New Zealand appearance at Highlands Motorsport Park during the Highlands Festival…

Advantage Motorsport Clipsal Wrap

Advantage Motorsport has returned from a very hot Clipsal 500 with their first race win for Chris Stevenson. A huge field of 37 Aussie Race Cars, which included 12 Rookies took the track in heat wave conditions. Over 4 days-the Advantage Motorsport Team had some highs-but also had to deal with some lows as well! But in true racing spirit-got in and did what was needed to get all 5 cars out for every race. Stevenson qualified 14th-and made his way up to 8th in Race 1. An engine failure at the start of Race 2 meant that he was a DNF. In the reverse grid Race 3, he came from 19th  to win the race,  with fellow Team Hertz driver Craig Thompson finishing 4th-giving…

At the Clipsal 500 Western Sydney Motorsport proved they were again a team to be reckoned with for the 2016 Aussie Racing Car series. “We had a great weekend and I’m really pleased to see all cars in the top half of the field after just the first round.  Craig Woods had a great weekend keeping toe to toe with last years Champ Brendon Pingel, Woods won Race One for the weekend and had two second places as well.  Blake (Sciberras) had a tough weekend but came out 10th overall for the weekend, he’ll be higher up at the next round I believe.  And Grant (Thompson) had his best weekend of racing ever, he and I were fighting over positions in race three where he…

Harley Haber Clipsal 500 Wrap

Harley Haber’s first outing in the new CEJN Mustang has strongly pointed at him being a contender for the Rookie standings for 2016 and even the outright championship when he banks a few more points. “I felt really comfortable in the car this weekend, it’s like chalk and cheese with the old Falcon I was running last year. The drivers this year have all stepped up and that’s what I’m doing with the CEJN Mustang, its tough but I can see myself at the pointy end at every round. I’m working very hard to keep the car up the front; we’ve set tough goals for ourselves as a team” said Haber after the Clipsal Round.   Harley was 10th fastest in the first practice on…

Clipsal 500 2016 Weekend Wrap Up

The 2016 Aussie Racing Car Series got off to a fast and furious start, with a very full and busy grid.  The series returned to the Clipsal 500 after being away for a year, and the large crowd loved it! The ARC class had almost double the number of entries compared to any other class at the event, 37 of the pocket rockets took to the tight concrete lined Parklands circuit and by the end of the weekend 37 cars were still running, a feat no other class could match! The Aussie Racing Cars were first on to the track early on Thursday morning, in true street circuit tradition the track was very dusty and dirty with little to no traction for the drivers.  The…

Young Karter Joins Aussie Racing Cars

Another Kart racer has crossed the gap from karting to circuit racing.  18 year old Queenslander Ben Cox started racing karts when just 10 years old and has now progressed to the Aussie Racing Cars Championship.  “When I decided to step up to the Aussie Cars I knew I needed a good car if I was to make a real go of it, so we purchased the Mustang of Maurice Masini late last year, it’s a quick car”, said Wilcox. Ben has tested the car at both Queensland Raceway and Lakeside Park, “we've had great improvements with each test day”, he said.  The youngsters main sponsor is Wilcox Engineering and Conveyors based in Carole Park Brisbane. “At Clipsal I would like to be up the…

From Karting to Aussie Racing Cars

David Sultana has made the jump to a slightly bigger pocket rocket, from Karts to a Toyota Aurion Aussie Racing Car, “it’s quite a bit different from my Karting experience, I guess the biggest change is the lack of vision, they do handle a bit the same though, it’s not like I had to re-learn to drive” said Sultana recently. After 15 years spent in Karting David has decided to give the Aussie Cars ago for the full 2016 season.  When asked what his goals for the Clipsal 500 were his response was to be amongst the quickest of the large Rookie contingent. The New South Welshman has had a couple of test days in his new car at Wakefield Park, the Aurion is an…
