Western Sydney Motorsport Phillip Island WrapUp

Western Sydney Motorsport entered four cars for the Phillip Island round. The weekend began for us slowly as we experimented with a few different options around the #64 Car of Craig Woods. He was unfortunate to break a camshaft in Qualifying which resulted in the now familiar WSM engine change! We managed to make some significant gains over the course of the 4 races with our two main cars in focus being #64 Craig Woods and #68 Blake Sciberras.  Both Craig #72 and Grant Thompson #78 made some considerable gains in track position over the weekend but some untimely mechanical breakdowns affected both of them in race 4 resulting in DNFS for both cars. This disappointment was tempered by the absolute flying finish to the weekend in…

Brendon Pingel’s podium 2nd at the Island strengthens championship lead

Brendon Pingel on point at Phillip Island with an impressive podium 2nd in the penultimate Aussie Racing Cars 2015 Rd 6. He extended his championship lead by a further 7 points to now have a 36 point gap between himself and 2nd placed Stevenson. Brendon was 5th fastest in wet practice and just as qualifying started the isolator switch failed and the team quickly went to work to get him out into qualifying in absolutely drenching rain conditions. One lap down and the session was red flagged. Brendon showed early pace as he topped the leader board, however with only a few minutes remaining at the restart of the session, the rain intensified and Brendon managed a difficult and somewhat frustrating 9th grid position. Fine weather for Saturday’s race one, Brendon…

Phillip Island Round 6 Weekend Wrap

Once again the Aussie Racing Cars were without a doubt the best show on wheels at Phillip Island last weekend.  No other class can boast having 10 cars bunched up at the front with anyone one of them able to jump to take the win, multiple lead changes every lap, pack racing right through the field or five cars wide through the fast turn one! The second to last round for this year saw a number of new drivers and new cars join us. Leigh Bowler had a baptism by fire first run in his pocket rocket with a couple of spins resulting in a couple of DNFs.  Youngster Harley Haber proved he'll be a 2016 contender when he steps up to his new…

Phillip Island Round 6 Race 4

IN ONLY his second Aussie Racing Car outing Jon McCorkindale not only won the last race but also took the overall round six win at Phillip Island. It was another thriller for the pocket rockets as McCorkindale was being hunted down by series leader Brendon Pingel (Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze) over the closing laps, bringing a 1.5 second advantage down to just half a second in the end. Adrian Flack (A GAS National Euro GT) led the last early until McCorkindale (Scotty Taylor Motorsport Ford Mustang) grabbed the lead on lap three and scored the narrow victory. Western Sydney Motorsport team mates Craig Woods (Mustang) and Blake Scibberas (Toyota Aurion) headed a four-way dice for third with James Duckworth (RDA Brakes Euro GT) and…

Phillip Island Round 6 Race 3

AFTER STARTING ninth in the reverse top ten third race, Trent Young has taken a thrilling victory at the Phillip Island Aussie Racing Cars Championship Series sixth round. Over the course of the eight lapper there were numerous leaders including Brendon Pingel (Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze) initially, then Ben Walsh (DR Ink Tattoo Removal Euro GT) while Young (HBR Nissan Altima) picked up a couple of places on the opening tour of the eight-lapper before hitting the lead on lap four. But it wasn’t over there with Walsh and Jon McCorkindale (Scotty Taylor Motorsport Ford Mustang) getting ahead Young at various stages over the ensuing laps. It was only in the last half of the last lap that Young, who was back in front,…

Phillip Island Round 6 Race 2

ADRIAN FLACK continued on his winning way after race one to take a dominating victory in the second race of round six of the Aussie Racing Car Championship Series at Phillip Island. At the helm of his A GAS National Euro GT, Flack was victorious by 2.5 seconds while it couldn’t be closer in the battle for second. It was a three-way side-by-side duel to the line where ultimately Trent Young (HBR Nissan Altima) pipped Jon McCorkindale (Scotty Taylor Motorsport Ford Mustang) and Adam Uebergang (Uebergang’s Euro GT). They were covered by just 0.04 seconds but after the race Uebergang received a 38-second penalty for contact with series leader Brendon Pingel’s Spirit of Lockyer Holden Cruze. “That was my fault, I stuffed up. I didn’t…

Phillip Island Round 6 Race 1

IN A thrilling opening encounter for the Aussie Racing Car Championship Series sixth round at Phillip Island, Adrian Flack has won ahead of a very tight finish between Adam Uebergang and Trent Young. The three were in the lead battle throughout the eight-lap event, swapping positions on numerous occasions, before Flack (A GAS National) gained the upper hand on the sixth lap and gained a vital break to win by 1.8 seconds. As he had done on Young (HBR Nissan Altima) headed the Uebergang’s Euro GT onto the main straight only to have Uebergang run Young down and pip him for second. Unfortunately Young was penalised five seconds for a start infringement and was relegated to ninth. Just in behind the front running trio there…

Phillip Island Round 6 Qualifying

TIMES COULD not have been closer in qualifying for round six of the Aussie Racing Car Championship Series with just six ten thousands of a second separating the fastest two by the conclusion of the abridged session. Trent Young (HBR Nissan Altima) posted a best lap of 2 minutes 9.8645 seconds to take pole position for the first of four races while later, James Duckworth (RDA Brakes Euro GT) went very close to toppling Young with his 2 minutes 9.8651 second lap. “It was a very wet out there, all the inside of the car is water logged,” said Young. “There was even water in the driver’s seat, I was saturated. But it was good payback to beat James for he did it to me…

Phillip Island Round 6 Practice

GETTING OUT early was the key to a reasonable practice lap time in a soggy first session of Aussie Racing Cars at Phillip Island today. In the one and only round six practice session before qualifying later today, rain dictated a dour first outing for the pocket rockets at the Victorian island circuit. As the rain coincided with the start of the 20-minute session, Chris Stevenson (Hertz Nissan Altima) currently lying second in the points, was the first to head the time sheets with a 1 minute 57.7844 before Adam Uebergang’s Euro GT went half a second quicker. The latter is third in the points tally. Then the rain tumbled down, nullifying any chance of faster times by any one. Third fastest for the session…

Scott McLaughlin supports the Cure for MND Foundation

V8Supercar driver Scott McLaughlin is getting behind the Cure for MND Foundation after meeting a great fan of his, Shane who had MND and passed away from the disease just a few months after Scott met him. “It hit me pretty hard, he was a really nice guy, what hits me most about the whole thing was he knew completely what was going on, his brain was continually working but everything shuts down around it, it’s a pretty sad disease and to be a part of it, and to understand it and know what’s going on is pretty special to me” said McLaughlin at Phillip Island yesterday. The Foundation President Ian Davis who is battling MND himself said “It’s fantastic to have Scott join us…

Penultimate Aussie Racing Car Round – Phillip Island

The second to last round for the 2015 Aussie Racing Cars gets under way in just 3 days, many of the teams have already begun the trip south, our third overseas if you like ;) Last year this round was our final for 2014 and the championship was almost already decided, Darren Chamberlin (Chambo) was the eventual champion in the end after a long hard fought year. Coming into this round Queensland’s Brendon Pingel (296pts) has a strong lead in the championship but not an unassailable one from Victorian Chris Stevenson (267pts) whom has been steady all year long, Pingel has won the last two rounds and is sure to be wanting to continue that form.  Another Queenslander Adam Uebergang sits in third just 4…

Karting superstar, Kel Treseder joins Aussie Racing Car Championship

Following my retirement from full-time karting, it is with much excitement I wish to announce that in 2016 I will be competing in the action-packed Aussie Racing Cars Series with the support of my long-term, personal sponsors and Team Owners Ray and Keryn Fulcher. Running under the Kels Karts and Parts team, I will take part in my first race as soon as December this year at the Coates Hire Sydney 500 V8 round, which will be a great opportunity to learn about the class and tailor my driving skills to suit this new form of racing before the commencement of the 2016 series. Having raced all classes of karts over my 23 year career, I am very excited by the opportunity to join the growing Aussie Racing Car category and am…
